A DANDY LOST IN THE 21ST CENTURY

November 4, 2020

Part of ‘The Other Museum’ activities programme

What defines a dandy and the ensuing Dandyism movement? How relevant are they both today? A prominent contemporary figure, Félix de Azúa states that Dandies are merely the product of fiction… Who are, or were, the dandies of the 20th and 21st century? What is the relationship between Dandyism and literature, music, fashion and film? In this talk, MPM initiates a debate on a predominantly aesthetic type that came into being in the 19th century and has lasted until the 21st - albeit not without adapting to contemporary times.
