Empowering Objects: African Power Objects and Picasso
June 14, 2007
Speaker: Hélène Klein
The relationship between Picasso’s work and the culture, rites and customs of sub-Saharan Africa was the subject of this talk by Aimée Conlin-Bessire of the Maine College of Arts, USA.
The series of lectures ‘Picasso and Africa. Convergences’ was a complement to the exhibition Picasso. Small Figure. The Collection in Context. Scholars dedicated to Picasso and, in particular, to the influences it received from African culture, discussed their latest research and conclusions on the matter.
