Invent your own museum. Semana Blanca Workshop 2023

How about inventing your own museum? For three days participants have the chance to explore the Museo Picasso Málaga and find out for themselves how museums are created – their architecture, their collections and all their components – taking as a basis the works of Pablo Picasso.

The first day is devoted to discussing the museum space. Participants get to explore the architecture of the Palacio de Buenavista, distinguishing its component parts, and take a look at its history. They experiment with media such as photography and drawing and each create a museum of their own.

The second day is focused on the collections and on asking what story the museum can tell. Participants examine the MPM’s collection and use the most significant pieces in the collection and the media most frequently used in Picasso’s oeuvre – painting, sculpture, collage and assemblage – as references for experimenting in the workshop.

On the third day the children look at what the museum does. They learn about the MPM’s various activities and assemble the model of their own museum that they have created during the workshop and take home with them afterwards.
