 Lugares × Trisha Brown

Jan 29 —— Feb 8, 2025

Trisha Brown Dance Company presents In Plain Site and Floor of the Forest (1970) in Museo Picasso Málaga.

Lugares × [Places x] is a novel programme launched by Museo Picasso Málaga which explores the interaction between art, performance, and the museum space. This initiative interlaces architecture, creativity, and audience involvement by inviting artists to reinterpret different museum spaces, thus creating immersive experiences that blur the boundaries between disciplines. Each project linked to Lugares x will provide visitors with new viewpoints and unexpected encounters inside the museum space.

Trisha Brown (1936-2017) was a pioneering choreographer who transformed contemporary dance by challenging traditional forms and spaces. Throughout her career, she created more than one hundred choreographies, six operas, and multiple visual artworks. Her innovative approach brought dance to museums, galleries, and unconventional spaces, and changed this artistic discipline forever. Trisha Brown Dance Company carries on with her legacy presenting her visionary work to new audiences and contexts, which confirms her profound influence on contemporary dance.
In Plain Site rethinks contemporary dance in specific spaces. Trisha Brown’s choreographies go beyond the traditional stage, adapting to the unique dynamics of the museum. These performances create an intimate connection between dancers and the audience, thus closing the gap between movement and environment in an exceptional manner.

Floor of the Forest (1970) This iconic piece in Trisha Brown Dance Company’s repertoire blends dance and sculpture. It features a woven structure woven with ropes and clothing, through which the artists appear to circulate as they dress and undress. This reinterpretation of vertical and horizontal movement, influenced by gravity, invites the audience to participate from multiple perspectives, allowing them to observe the artists’ creativity and corporeality as they redefine the boundaries of dance. After the performance by the Trisha Brown Dance Company, the piece Floor of the Forest will be interpreted by students from the Málaga School of Drama, specially trained for this occasion by the TBDC.
