Max Ernst between Germany, France and America

Lecture in German.

In 1941, through his relationship with Peggy Guggenheim, Max Ernst travelled to the United States to flee from Nazi persecution, remaining there until his return to France in the 1950s. His work during this period will be the central theme of the lecture given by Julia Drost, Director of the Centre allemand d’histoire de l’art in Paris.

Julia Drost has extensively researched the art of the first half of the 20th century and has published a number of essays on its protagonists and the context in which they produced their work.

Her lecture Feeling both at home and a stranger everywhere - Max Ernst between Germany, France and America was part of the cycle running parallel to the show Beyond Painting. Max Ernst in the Würth Collection, and had been organized in collaboration with the Centre allemand d’histoire de l’art in Paris and the Universidad de Málaga.
