"Picasso e historia"
Tuesday, 18 May, 2021
Presentation of the book by Eugenio Carmona, Rocío Robles, María Dolores Jiménez-Blanco and José Lebrero
The other Museum will be hosting the presentation of the book “Picasso e historia” (Picasso and History), jointly published by Museo Picasso Málaga and Editorial Machado, as part of the latter’s “La balsa de la medusa” collection, with guest speakers Eugenio Carmona, professor of art history at Universidad de Málaga; Rocío Robles, coordinator of the MA in history of contemporary art and visual culture, and co-director of the UCM research group UCM: SU+MA [Universidad + Museo] at the Department of Art History, Faculty of Geography and History of the Universidad Complutense, Madrid; and José Lebrero, artistic director of Museo Picasso Málaga.
Based on new research, this book offers an approach to Picasso’s work that is different from the traditional one, prioritizing a historical context that provides keys to its interpretation from a modern-day perspective and linking it to other intellectual traditions.
The eleven essays in this volume comprise an approach to the work of Pablo Picasso that differs from the predominant focus of books on Picasso over the past few decades, which have mainly been based on formal, semiological and biographical aspects. The authors of these essays are mainly professors from distinguished universities: Pepe Karmel, David Cottington, Neil Cox, Charles W. Haxthausen, Eugenio Carmona, Sônia Salzstein, Rocío Robles Tardío, María Dolores Jiménez-Blanco, Stephen Petersen, Joshua I. Cohen and José Lebrero Stals
