Professor Robert Lubar of the Fine Arts Institute of New York University explored primitivism in Picasso’s work and his relationship with a wide variety of cultural manifestations: from the art of Gauguin and modern painting to Egyptian, Iberian, classical and non-western art.
The series of lectures Picasso and Africa. Convergences was a complement to the exhibition Picasso. Small Figure. The Collection in Context. Scholars dedicated to Picasso and, in particular, to the influences it received from African culture, discussed their latest research and conclusions on the matter.
