Pottery workshop
Jan 16 and Jan 23, 2025
Pablo Picasso began working dedicatedly with ceramics in 1946. For him it marked a reencounter with the age-old Mediterranean artistic tradition, with which he always closely identified, owing both to the motifs represented and to his fascination with the mysteries of pottery. Over a twenty-year period, Picasso produced around 4,000 unique pieces in fired clay, reinterpreting the archaic techniques of modelling and decoration.
In this workshop, participants learn about Picasso’s ceramic production, which is represented at the Museum, and put into practice clay and ceramic modelling techniques using moulds with slip.
During two sessions, besides producing objects with the above techniques, they get to work on underglaze and overglaze decoration with engobes, ceramic chalks and cobalt oxide.
The workshop includes a guided tour of the Museum’s ceramic pieces and all the artistic materials.
