PROGRAMME FOR PEOPLE AFFECTED BY ALZEHEIMER’S DISEASE

1May 31, 2019

On the ocassion of ‘Olga Picasso’

Coinciding with the temporary exhibition Olga Picasso, Museo Picasso Málaga has designed an educational programme for both Alzheimer sufferers and their carers. They will visit the exhibition together and then go to the workshop area to do memory exercises with the aid of photographs.

The aim of this programme for Alzheimer patients and their carers, who are mainly family members, is to increase the patients’ attention span and cognitive focus through discussion and by making art based on the Olga Picasso temporary exhibition.

The programme is divided into two working sessions and will acquaint participants with Olga Khokhlova’s life and with Picasso’s work, using participative activities to stimulate group discussion. They will visit the exhibition rooms and look at Olga’s personal possessions, which they may recognize as items in their own life story. After the visit the group will go to the workshop area, where both patients and carers will be able to talk about the precious memories they have in common, strengthening the personal link between them. In the second session, they will be able to choose an object or a photo that inspires them and make cyanotype on fabric, to link the past with the present. They can also use the fabric to embroider a word they associate with that memory.

This programme is run in partnership with the Málaga Association for Families of Alzheimer Patients and other Dementias, in collaboration with Obra Social “la Caixa”.
