Where is Nauman?

May 18, 2019

On the occasion of the Bruce Nauman exhibition

In conjunction with the exhibition Bruce Nauman. Rooms, bodies, words, the Museo Picasso Málaga has organized Where is Nauman?, a photography and video competition in which participants focused on some of the concepts that interested this US artist, such as the idea of time, the concept of space, the meaning of language and the investigation of human behaviour in the context of disagreeable or difficult situations.

THE JURY’S DECISION

Museo Picasso Málaga chose the three winning entries based on their connection and contextualization with the work of Bruce Nauman. A digital clip, C.O.N.F.L.I.C.T.O. by Elena Dee, who also wrote the musical score, won first prize. The black and white video shows a woman performing a dance and focuses on her sober body movements. It is a personal tribute to the influence of experimental dance on Bruce Nauman’s work.

The runner-up was a colour photograph posted on the @deseeing Instagram account, which shows a scene of a woman who is lying on the ground. It is inspired by a quote in which Nauman states that his work is “basically an outgrowth of the anger I feel about the human condition”.

The third prize went to Germán Luque Llamas (@germanswine) for a colour portrait he created based on Bruce Nauman’s work Yellow Room, in which the aim was to depict his own perception after viewing this work at the MPM Exhibition: “absence that seeks the need for centrality, and a centrality that never happens because it does not exist”.

1st prize: Elena Dee @elenadee.art 2nd prize: @deseeing 3rd prize: Germán Luque Llamas @germanswine

The winners will receive 300€ for the first prize, 200€ for the runner-up, and 100€ for third prize. All three winners will also be given a copy of Please Pay Attention Please: Bruce Nauman’s Words.

Three winners have been selected by the jury:

1st prize: Elena Dee @elenadee.art (300 €) 2nd prize: @deseeing (200 €) 3rd prize: Germán Luque Llamas @germanswine (100 €) The three winners will also receive a copy of the book Por favor, preste atención, por favor: palabras de Bruce Nauman
