MORE THAN 150,000 PEOPLE VISITED ‘PICASSO SCULPTOR. MATTER AND BODY’ AT THE MUSEO PICASSO MÁLAGA

13/09/2023

A total of 151,346 people visited Picasso Sculptor. Matter and Body at the Museo Picasso Málaga from its opening at the end of May to its closure on Sunday, September 10.

Picasso Sculptor. Matter and Body, visited by 151,346 people, was the first major exhibition in Spain to focus on this aspect of Picasso’s oeuvre. Its curator, Carmen Giménez, wished to emphasise the central role played by the Málaga-born artist in representing the human body both as a whole and as a fragment. The exhibition was staged in collaboration with the Museo Guggenheim in Bilbao, where it will be on display from September 29.

Picasso Sculptor. Matter and Body was part of the international programme Picasso Celebration 1973–2023, and was organised with the support of the Musée national Picasso-Paris and the Spanish National Commission for the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the death of Pablo Picasso, with Telefónica as a collaborating company for the Spanish programme. The exhibition was also sponsored by Fundación Unicaja.

THE ECHO OF PICASSO, FORTHCOMING EXHIBITION

Curated by Eric Troncy, from Tuesday, October 3 the Museo Picasso Málaga will be hosting the second and last exhibition of the year, The Echo of Picasso. The exhibition explores the effect of Picasso’s artistic practices on contemporary art and today’s globalised art scene. Works by Picasso will be shown alongside those of artists who acknowledged his influence, such as Francis Bacon, Martin Kippenberger and Maria Lassnig, as well as contemporary artists like Claire Tabouret and Rashid Johnson.

The Echo of Picasso is part of the Museo Picasso Málaga’s 20th Anniversary events and the international ‘Picasso Celebration 1973–2023’ programme. It has been organised in conjunction with Fundación Almine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso with the support of the Musée national Picasso-Paris and the Spanish National Commission for the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the death of Pablo Picasso, with Telefónica as a collaborating company of the Spanish programme. Fundación ‘la Caixa’ is sponsoring this exhibition.
