MPM Activities over the Christmas Holidays

Visitors, families, young adults and children will all find activities that have been scheduled for them over the Christmas period around the exhibitions Eleven Invited Works and Hilma af Klint. Pioneer of Abstraction.

MPM&rsquo";"s opening hours will be the same as usual, except for Tuesdays 24th and 31st December, when the museum opens from 10.00am to 3.00pm, and Wednesdays 25th December and 1st January, when it will be closed all day on both days.

VISIT THE MUSEUM WITH YOUR FAMILY The last Family Day of 2013 will take place on Saturday, 21st December. This time it will be focussed on the exhibition of works by Swedish artist Hilma af Klint. Children accompanied by their parents, and armed with a special notebook, can visit this temporary exhibition and explore ideas such as the real and the abstract, the material and the immaterial. Then, in the workshop, and with the help of the gallery&acute";“s educational staff, they can examine the ideas they saw in the exhibition halls and fill in their artist&acute”;“s notebooks. The workshops will start at 11.30am, 11.45am and 12 noon. You will need to put your name down the ticket office beforehand, as there are a limited number of places. At 1.00pm, the New Moon Quartet will be playing well-known classical works and revealing the secrets of some of the instruments. For adults, these activities are free with admission, and admission to the museum is always free for children. What&acute”;“s more, there will 10% off children&rsquo”;“s and young adults&rsquo”;" books all morning at the MPM Bookshop.

Children&acute";"s activities continue on Saturday 4th January at 10.30am with Oink, Oink, Ink a puppet show by the company Siesta Teatro, and at 13.00pm there is storytelling by Fanny Fuguet, with the story Cantacontando la Navidad. Throughout the morning, a notebook will be handed out to those families visiting the temporary exhibition Hilma af Klint. Pioneer of Abstraction.

WORKSHOPS FOR EVERYONE As usual during holiday periods, MPM is once again organizing workshops for all ages on art and artistic techniques. On Thursday 26th and Friday 27th December, from 10.00am to 2.00pm, the workshop Viaje a través del arte will take 4 to 10-year-olds on a journey through art and time. Greek art, Classical art, Cubism and Abstraction are just some of the styles they can see in the museum and which will serve to inspire the works they create themselves in the workshop using tempera, collage, pastels, cardboard and different textures of paper.

For those who are artistically inclined, on Saturday 28th December at 6.00pm MPM is offering a chance to learn engraving techniques with the workshop Primeras impresiones. This practical two-hour workshop for adults will enable participants to make their own prints.

GUIDED TOURS On Thursdays 26th December and 2nd January, the exhibition Hilma af Klint. Pioneer of Abstraction will be the subject of the tour El arte de lo invisible, which focuses on the spirituality of an artist who, at the start of the 20th century set out on one of the most surprising pathways leading towards Abstract art.

Both those who live in Malaga and those spending the holidays here can come along to the gallery and discover the work of Pablo Picasso. The best way to do this is to put your name down for a guided tour of the Eleven Invited Works in the Permanent Collection, on Saturdays 21st and 28th December and 4th January, from 6.00pm to 7.00pm. Exceptionally, and to commemorate MPM&rsquo";"s 10th Anniversary, the exhibition halls of the Palacio de Buenavista are temporarily hosting works by artists Picasso studied, admired and knew, such Matisse, Degas and Manet.

The Paseos por el Picasso tours, every Saturday at 12.00 noon and every Sunday at 7.00pm points out the Palace&acute";"s architecture features and archaeological remains.
