Flamenco singer Mayte Martín, jazz musician Jorge Pardo and cook Dani García will be a few of the names taking part in the intense artistic and cultural programme, which will also see the participation of Malaga’s cultural collectives and associations. The celebration begins on Saturday, October 26th at 8:00PM, and runs until Sunday, October 27th at 8:00PM. 24 hours. People of all ages are invited to take part in the celebration.

Participate, remember, and appreciate. Museo Picasso Málaga has organised a host of activities around these ideas to celebrate its 10th Anniversary, commemorating an entire decade of efforts and success and renewing our commitment to the diffusion of Pablo Picasso’s work, as well as all the art and culture of our city.

Open 24 hours is structured around five main themes: Exhibits, Music, Family, Itineraries and what we have called extramuros, i.e. the activities that will take place outside the Museum’s walls. One of the highlights of the exhibits category will be Eleven Invited Works, the third of the art exhibits organised this year to mark the 10th Anniversary, which opens on the afternoon of October 26th and is an exceptional representation of great artists Picasso was particularly interested in, within the museum’s permanent collection. Visitors may also enjoy Hilma af Klint, a Pioneer of Abstraction, an impressive exhibition that brings the surprising work of this Swedish artist to Spain.

The Music Programme will kick off at 10:00PM with a concert of flamenco singer Mayte Martín in the MPM Auditorium. She will sing to the book 20 sonnets by Gongora/Picasso. At the same time, the garden of the Buenavista Palace will host an electronic music session with DJ Anna Aixandri. Following Mayte Martín’s concert, the Auditorium will welcome Jorge Pardo and his quartet in a concert for true jazz lovers. On Sunday at 1:30PM, the Granada Quartet will perform a selection of classical music in the Museum’s patio. At 7:00PM, the music programme will come to a close with the projection of Con el color de Picasso (1994) and the performance of the band Los Vivalavida, winners of Malaga’s Carnival in 2013.

The Family programme will mostly take place on Sunday, starting at 11:00AM with a puppet show in the Museum’s garden, and a repeat of the same show at 3:00PM. At 11.30AM, a workshop called De Picasso a Picasso (From Picasso to Picasso) will join the artist’s house of birth and MPM through a pathway of sculptures created by children. At 1:30PM, parents and kids will have the chance to discover the work of Hilma af Klint in a workshop that focuses on her work. At 12:30PM, the Auditorium will welcome the children’s play El gallo de las veletas (The Cock on the Weathercock), winner of Best Show at the FETEN children&rsquo";"s theatre awards in 2013.

M&ordf";" Paz Temboury will open the Itineraries section with two lectures on the letter her father, Juan Temboury, wrote to Picasso in the 1950’s as the first step towards a permanent art collection in the artist’s city of birth. At midnight, The Art of the Invisible will delve into the least known and more esoteric aspects of the work by Hilma af Klint, and a tour will take place again at 1:00AM. At 12:30AM and 1:30AM, join an archaeological route between the Roman Theatre and the archaeological remains under Buenavista Palace, which will, exceptionally, open its terraces to the public at 2:00AM and 2:30AM for stunning views of the city.

On Sunday morning, Museo Picasso Malaga According to… gets things started with prestigious chef Dani García, who will share his impressions on the Museum and its Collection. There will be a children’s group at 12:00PM, blogger Soledad Gómez at 12:30PM, an Immigrant Association at 1:00PM, and at 5:00PM and 6:00PM a group of Friends of the Museo de Málaga will carry out their own visits with commentary of the Buenavista Palace. There will also be a guided tour of the exhibition Eleven Invited Works at 1:00PM and an engraving workshop for adults at 6:30PM to conclude the Museum’s offering in the Itineraries category.

In the section we’ve called extramuros, the exhibition Picasso en el Sur (Picasso in the South), a joint initiative between MPM and Diario Sur, follows a journalistic and human journey through Malaga’s calle Larios tracing the history of our Museum. The project Tu Museo 2.0 (Your Museum 2.0) will give visitors the opportunity to share their photos and videos throughout the 24 hours. On Sunday, Aplama and MPM will organise an outdoor painting competition under the title Picasso y su entorno (Picasso and his surroundings).
