Seminar: The Influence of Museums on the Interpretation and Reception of Pablo Picasso's Work
21/01/2014
On January 22rd and 23rd, experts on Picasso and professional museologists will be taking part in “France-Picasso-Spain. The Artist and his Museums”, a series of talks that will be held in the Museo Picasso Málaga auditorium and the conference hall of the Fundación Picasso-Museo Casa Natal.
Is Picasso considered a French or a Spanish artist? What role have museums played in canonizing him? Are Picasso Museums a tourist attraction or a cultural asset? These are just some of the questions that will be discussed during the sessions on 22nd and 23rd January. The seminar examines the influence that museums, as artistic institutions, have had and continue to have on attributing Pablo Picasso´";"s work to be French, given that he carried out most of his work in France and was inspired by French sources.
Professionals of art history and museology, such as the Head of the 19th-Century Painting Department at the Prado Museum, Javier Barón, art historian and former Director of Museu Picasso de Barcelona, Maite Ocaña, and Chief Conservator of the Collections Department for the Service des Musées de France, Dominique Dupuis-Labbé, are just some of the speakers who will be voicing their thoughts on the historical changes brought about by the influence of museums on the public reception of Picasso.
The seminar France-Picasso-Spain. The Artist and his Museums is organized by Museo Picasso Málaga in collaboration with Fundación Picasso-Museo Casa Natal, and with the sponsorship of Obra Social &ldquo";“La Caixa&rdquo”;".
