TEMPORARY LOAN OF 152 WORKS BY PICASSO TO THE MUSEO PICASSO MÁLAGA

30/01/2024

Yesterday, on Monday, January 29, the president of the board of trustees of the Museo Picasso Málaga, Arturo Bernal (Andalusian regional minister for tourism, culture and sport), and Bernard Ruiz-Picasso, in his capacity as joint president of the Fundación Almine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso (FABA), signed an agreement for the temporary loan to the MPM of 152 works by Picasso belonging to FABA.

The valuable collection loaned through this agreement will be part of a new exhibition made up of 202 works by Picasso, 50 of which belong to the Museum’s own holdings. FABA has lent the Museum other significant collections of Picassos, the latest since 2020 to the present. The new collection is worth 38.9 percent more than the previous loan and can be visited over the next three years.

The new exhibition opens on March 19 and will run until the spring of 2027. Entitled Pablo Picasso: Structures of Invention. The Unity of a Life’s Work, it features paintings, sculptures, drawings, ceramics and graphic works, challenging traditional classifications and revealing new connections between pieces. The show has been designed by FABA and is curated by Professor Michael FitzGerald, an expert in art history at Trinity College in Hartford (US). As an innovative aspect, it includes five ‘focus’ exhibitions, each with its own argument, based on the academic contributions of five international experts coordinated by Prof. FitzGerald.

This new format promises to surprise and attract the interest of art lovers, spurring them to return to the Museo Picasso Málaga or to visit it for the first time. While the new exhibition is being set up, The Echo of Picasso will remain open to the public and the MPM’s educational and cultural activities will continue in full swing.
