THE MUSEO PICASSO MÁLAGA ANNOUNCES THE CHOICE OF MIGUEL LÓPEZ-REMIRO FORCADA AS NEW ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

The executive board of the Fundación Museo Picasso is pleased to announce the result of the international call for applications launched in March 2023 to recruit a new artistic director to head the Museum from 2024 to 2029. The successful candidate, who will take up his post immediately at the beginning of January 2024, is Miguel López-Remiro Forcada. He has been chosen as the most suitable candidate to play this key role in the institution, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the international recruitment process.

About Miguel López-Remiro Forcada

With an outstanding career in the artistic, cultural and educational fields, Miguel López-Remiro (Pamplona, 1977) holds a degree in Economics, a PhD in Philosophy, Aesthetics and Art Theory from the University of Navarr and an Executive MBA from IESE and is also a graduate of the Getty Leadership Institute at Claremont University in Los Angeles. He has been a visiting scholar at the University of California, San Diego and was the editor of the first anthology of Mark Rothko texts with Yale University Press and Flammarion. He recently held the post of PhD lecturer at the School of Architecture, Engineering and Design and its new Creative Campus at the Universidad Europea de Madrid. He has been deputy curatorial director of the Museo Guggenheim Bilbao, founding director of the Museo Universidad de Navarra, and a curator at institutions such as the Fundación Sorigué and the Fundación Otazu.

Next steps

Miguel López-Remiro Forcada will officially take up his post as artistic director of the Museo Picasso Málaga on January 1, 2024. A presentation press conference with Bernard Ruiz-Picasso has been scheduled for 12 noon on January 19 in the Christine Ruiz-Picasso Auditorium at the MPM.
