VOICE AND PIANO FOR PICASSO
22/11/2006
On November 23, 24 and 25, at 8:30 p.m., the Auditorium of the MPM shall become the stage for Voice and Piano for Picasso, a series of concerts given by the mezzosoprano Elena Gragera, accompanied by the pianist Antón Cardó.
The musical environment that surrounded Pablo Picasso during his lifetime is the main theme of the concerts that will be given by the mezzosoprano Elena Gragera and the pianist Antón Cardó at the Auditorium of the Museo Picasso Málaga. Albéniz, Granados, Poulenc, Debussy, Satie, Falla and Stravinsky are just some of the composers included in this broad repertoire, which also features lyrics by Max Jacob, Apollinaire, Verlaine, Cocteau, Breton and Lorca, among others.
The relationship between these authors and Picasso´s work, based on either a friendship with the artist, or on a thematic similarity, offers the public an opportunity to take a journey through the artist’s lifetime. It begins with his early years in Barcelona, represented by the works of Albéniz and Granados, through his mature period, illustrated by the music François Poulenc set to poems by Lorca.
The mezzosoprano Elena Gragera has received recognition not only for her great artistry, but also for the depth of her interpretation and the originality of her repertoire. She is regarded by the critics in the field as one of the best Spanish soloists performing today, and one of the best-known throughout Europe. Gragera has collaborated with conductors such as Helmuth Rilling, William Christies, Antonio Ros Marbá and Alexis Soriano, among others. In addition, she has given concerts at the Palau de la Música in Barcelona, Wigmore Hall in London, the Hermitage theatre in St. Petersburg, and the Salle Cortot in Paris.
