Workshops

In Three Dimensions

Jun 26 —— 30, Jul 3 —— 7, Jul 17 ——21, 2023

The Museo Picasso Málaga is holding five-day summer workshops for children aged 4 to 12, where they can explore the human body, space and volume through artistic activities.

Sculpture consists of carving, assembling or modelling certain materials to produce an artwork in three dimensions. Picasso’s sculptural output is notable for its innovation and use of unorthodox techniques and media, and he employed many of the materials he had on hand: wood, bronze, iron, cement, steel and plaster.

Organised in connection with the Picasso Sculptor. Matter and Body exhibition, the summer workshops offer a chance to explore three dimensionality and the human body through sculptural practice, employing both traditional techniques and experimental materials ranging from ceramics to assemblage.

As well as including a visit to the museum’s galleries to find out how Picasso drew inspiration from classical works, the first day will be devoted to traditional modelling techniques. On the second day participants concentrate on ceramic and plaster, producing reliefs that explore volume and the human body. On the Wednesday they try their hand at more innovative techniques such as assemblage and the use of materials not traditionally applied to sculpture. Monumental and collective sculpture are the focus of the fourth day, when participants work in groups to create large figures. On the last day of the workshop a large-scale exhibition will be staged, which can be visited by relatives.
