SDG 12: Sustainable Consumption and Production
November 15, 2022
With Ana María Castillo Clavero
‘Sustainable consumption and production’ is the theme of Sustainable Development Goal number 12 (SDG12). Ana María Castillo Clavero, coordinator of the European CARE project (Consumer Awareness for Responsibility to Environment) and professor of Economic and Business Sciences at the UMA, addresses issues such as the need to raise social and environmental awareness in the field of consumption.
World consumption and production, drivers of the world economy, have triggered an environmental degradation that is endangering the systems on which the future development of humankind and the planet depend. In this respect, sustainable consumption and production are key means of halting the process. Castillo proposes promoting more conscious and austere habits to extend the useful life of goods, reusing and recycling them, as well as reducing waste and moderating the use of non-substitutable goods.
