Flamenco in ‘Joel Meyerowitz. Europa 1966-1967’

Jun 20 —— Dec 12, 2024 . See programme

From June to December, as part of the series of Flamenco x Joel Meyerowitz activities, flamenco will be performed in the galleries hosting the Joel Meyerotwitz. Europa 1966-1967 exhibition, bringing live music into dialogue with the US artist’s photographs.

During his travels around Europe between 1966 and 1967, Joel Meyerowitz spent six months in the city of Málaga, where he had the opportunity to get to know the world of flamenco in depth through his contact with the Escalona family and his regular visits to the Peña Juan Breva.

While staying there, the photographer took more than 8,500 pictures and recorded hours of flamenco sound. The Museo Picasso Málaga has accordingly scheduled four live flamenco sessions in the galleries hosting the temporary exhibition, in which the music can interact with Meyerowitz’s snapshots of the flamenco scene in 1960s Málaga.
